An insanely long question on inflation. How can we stop inflation?

Question by …. . .-.. .-.. —: An insanely long question on inflation. How can we stop inflation?
What causes inflation?

Inflation seems to be a subject few people understand. The cause of inflation is likely purposely clouded by the people you send to Washington. To understand inflation, we must first review some history.

The USA started printing script, paper money, around the time of the Civil War. The script became promissory notes for an exchange of gold to foreign countries. All U.S. citizens were required to surrender their gold for dollars. All the gold in the USA became the property of the government. An exchange rate of $ 35 per ounce of gold was established. In international trading, the U.S. dollar became as good as gold.

Even though the U.S. dollar was backed by gold, the British pound sterling was the major currency used in the international commodities market up to World War II. As a result of England’s destruction during the war and the decline in value of its currency, the . . . → Read More: An insanely long question on inflation. How can we stop inflation?

hopefully, no one gets hurt, coz this paper
is just a requirement in passing the subject.

On this day, March 22, the Stamp Act of 1765 was passed, will history repeat?

Question by sound_of_the_silenced2: On this day, March 22, the Stamp Act of 1765 was passed, will history repeat?
The Stamp Act of 1765 (short title Duties in American Colonies Act 1765; 5 George III, c. 12) was a tax imposed by the British Parliament on the colonies of British America. The act required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London and carrying an embossed revenue stamp.[1][2] These printed materials were legal documents, magazines, newspapers and many other types of paper used throughout the colonies. Like previous taxes, the Stamp tax had to be paid in valid British currency, not in colonial paper money.[3] The purpose of the tax was to help pay for troops stationed in North America after the British victory in the Seven Years’ War. The British government felt that the colonies were the primary beneficiaries of this military presence, and should pay at least a portion of the expense.

The Stamp Act met with great resistance in the colonies. It was seen as a violation of the right of Englishmen to be . . . → Read More: On this day, March 22, the Stamp Act of 1765 was passed, will history repeat?

How do I redeem discontinued British currency?

Question by No Photo Available: How do I redeem discontinued British currency?
I live in the United States. In 2008 I visited England and brought back some paper money that wasn’t spent during the trip. I held on to it, thinking I’d visit again, but in December 2010 I realized that wasn’t going to happen, so I went to the local (US) bank to convert my pounds to dollars.

They said they couldn’t accept one of the 20 pound note because it had been discontinued in England about six months prior. I wish I had known about it beforehand, because that 20 pound note would have brought me over $ 30 USD!

Anyways, I know the Bank of England will still exchange them for the current notes, but I’m not planning any future trips to Europe. Am I out of luck?

Best answer:

Answer by Scott StevensonIt turns out you can mail it to the Bank of England, and they’ll deposit the equivalent of £20 in your bank account for you. There’s a form you’ve got to fill out and send . . . → Read More: How do I redeem discontinued British currency?

British Banks Go Offshore, So Why Shouldn’t You Follow says Lee Byers?

British Banks Go Offshore, So Why Shouldn’t You Follow says Lee Byers?

British banks were bailed out to the tune of billions of pounds worth of taxpayers’ hard earned revenue – and the bail out has arguably left the country bankrupt.  The new government coalition (the ConDems!) are doing what they can to fill the black hole in the economy, but it’s akin to shedding tears to fill an ocean.

The latest news is that they’re thinking of levying a charge against trades done by British listed banks in an effort to raise billions of pounds worth of tax income – but guess what, the British banks are now all set to go offshore to avoid as much of this charge as is possible.  So if banks can go offshore, why shouldn’t you follow?

The fact of the matter is, the banks that are going to be able to best avoid this charge have trading books centred elsewhere in the world – so if you’re an expatriate whose life is centred elsewhere in the world, you too can potentially go offshore to legitimately avoid . . . → Read More: British Banks Go Offshore, So Why Shouldn’t You Follow says Lee Byers?
