Question by Ann: Old Silver Certificates?
I recently found eight 1 dollar silver certificates. I was wondering what they might be worth.
Series
1935 D
1957 one starts with a star.
1957 B
1957 A
A 2 dollar bill that is series 1953
Two five dollar bills, series 1953 and 1963
A 10 dollar bill series 1934.
I have no clue if these are worth anything more that face value, but thought it might be worth asking. All bills are worn but still in decent condition.

Both the $ 5 United States Note and Federal Reserve Note were revised with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the reverse and WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND removed from the obverse. Also, the obligation on the Federal Reserve Note was changed to its current wording, THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.

I am thinking this is too late in the game it prob needs to be an older one to be worth more than face value.

Answer by zman492The value to a collector depends upon the condition. If the bill shows a lot of circulation it is probably worth less than $ 2.00. Even in the best possible condition the bill would be worth less than $ 20.00.

The fact that it is not too old does not always mean it is less valuable. The big thing limiting the value is the supply. There were a lot of these printed and a lot of people decided to hang on to them, increasing the supply available.

I also have (3) 1963 5 dollar silver certificates and one of them has a star in front of the serial numbers.

Answer by I. B. ZoxxAccording to the catalog I am using, there were no Series 1928 $ 5 Silver Certificates. There were Series 1928 Federal Reserve Notes (green seals and serial numbers) and United States Notes (red seals and serial numbers), but no Series 1928 Silver Certificates (Blue seals and serial numbers).
Same with Series 1963. You either have Federal Reserve Notes or United States Notes. Let us know which. Also, if there is a letter with the date (for example, Series 1928 B).
